My 4GB mini doesn't, but my nano does, when did they start offering this feature?

what does it do? I know what a compilation is, but how does an ipod support a compilation?

Under the Music menu there is an option for Compilations, if a song is flagged as being part of a compilation in iTunes it will appear there and not on the artists list. If you have a couples compilation CDs you can end up with a huge list of artists, makes it a little easier to deal with this way.
