If i sell my ipod mini to a friend so i can get a nano, how do i "deauthorize" it so it will connect to his computer?

you don't really need to do anything to it. When he plug it into his computer, iTunes will recognize that it isn't synced to that library and ask you if you want to sync it, which will delete all the stuff that was on it and replace it with his stuff.

The only time deauthorization comes into play is when you get rid of a computer you've bought iTunes on.

Apple allows you to load the songs you've purchased onto 5 different computers-- once you hit that limit you won't be able to play purchased songs until you deauthorize one of the already-authorized computers.
