IDK what to do.
I dropped my iphone 3g had a case, it just hit mostly face down. There are NO cracks or anything on the screen. The screen went all white with some lines going down it that change/move when i touch it.
I did a hard reset (hold top and home button for 10s).. Went to work last night. Nothing resolved.

Wake up, try a test call to my phone with my wife's and it turns out i can answer and make calls. I'm just using muscle memory for all the buttons. I cannot make any .

I had resigned to the idea of adding a line with At&t and getting the white iphone, I'm happy with this idea, but my wallet isn't.

I need advice on the ifixit.com kits that have the tools and stuff to fix broke screens/digitizers,front plates. Also i need my problem diagnosed.
Is it...
iPhone 3G Display Assembly - iFixit

or...
iPhone 3G Front Panel Kit - iFixit

Im assuming ill need the expensive one, since there are no scuffs crack blemishes to the edges around the glass. If i have to buy a new phone I would like to get a white one. So my window to act is small.
Should i sink 100 into a project that MAY work (never worked on anything this small/intricate) or should I get the new one which would be 218/318.. out of pocket opening a new line and have a much higher resale in the years to come.

Is this a hard fix? it comes with a kit i think

Even with a broken front panel, since it's working otherwise you should be able to command in excess of $100. There's one I found right off the bat on eBay for an iPhone 3G 16 GB being auctioned "for parts" with active bidding at about $150. Considering that, and what it'd take to fix it, you'd be ahead by getting the new one and selling the old as-is.

As an alternative, here's iResQ's repair quotes for specific repairs. They also will do a free diagnostic and quote:
iPhone 3G Service | Screen, Battery Replacement | Headphone Jack Repair

That def gives me something to think about. Thanks for the input. I always had ebay in the back of my mind as well. I just have not looked into it yet.

Weighted the pros and cons (mostly the money).
New one with an added line is 200/300 today, ~14$ extra a month on the bill for 12 months until the contract is over without out an early termination fee. Translates to 386/486 over the next year depending on what model I pick 16/32.

If i buy one today it will be 450-500.. idk until i get to the store today. Mid contract thats what i will have to pay.

Even the year of the extra fees is less than the mid contract upgrade.

This is all minus what i sell the broken phone in question will sell for on ebay.
thanks for the help

It sounds possible that one of the cables connecting the digitizer to the system board may have popped loose. Check out the service guides at iFixit and verify the cables are all seated fully. Tools you'll need are a small philips screwdriver and a suction cup to remove the display, although I've made do with packing tape before.
