I think you'll get back a standard model - without engraving.
Sorry! But let us know what happens.

If you have it engraved, the replacement will be the exact same model you sent in, and it will have your engraving on it. If they need to replace the unit, you will just get a new one of the same model you sent in, and they will engrave that one with the same thing you had engraved on the original one.
I sent mine back some time ago and when I got the brand new one, they had put the same engraving on it.

From the Apple iPod Service FAQ:

Quote:
What happens when an iPod is serviced?
iPod equipment sent in for service is replaced with functionally equivalent new, used, or refurbished iPod equipment. Service is processed through AppleCare's direct mail-in system. You will not receive the same iPod that was sent in for service. If your original iPod was personalized by Apple, your replacement iPod will be automatically personalized with the same text.

You will get back the exact same model you send in, AND it will be engraved with the exact same text as the one you sent in.

Sorry, I meant you would get a "standard one" as in a regular off the shelf 40GB iPod photo model without engraving.

This used to be policy I think, obviously it has changed since the last time I checked. Thanks for clarification Devilboy.
