So, I am unsure as to where to place this topic, and this area seems best. Anyway, my 4 G iPod Touch was stolen about 3 weeks ago. I am tracking it on mobileme.com and I was wondering if there is anyway to refine the search? Or is that as close as I can get? It says it's accurate up to 300 meters. Well, I know her first name (she erased mine, and put hers on it, but didn't wipe the ipod), and I know what street, but an actual house or address would be nice. Any one have an idea?

So, why not report it to the police and let them handle it?

EDIT: Beaten to the punch! First the username and then postings. What next?

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

I have given the police a call. They said they need as much evidence as I can get, and possibly the address and name, as it will help them more.

I would start by giving them a copy of your purchase receipt on your iPod along with serial number if you haven't already done so. They would need that to prove your ownership in order to press charges.
Also a call to Apple support may help. Don't know if they have a way to narrow the focus on the find my phone, but it's worth a shot.
Good luck.

NOTE: Thread moved to appropriate forum. Not just anything goes in Anything Goes

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

If it was me - and I had a first name and a street - and a 300 ft block of addresses - I'd be googling to see what popped up.

Well, mobile me uses google earth to narrow it down. It doesn't give me addresses, just street names.

I don't know anything about how the police work... But what if you took your laptop in (if you have a laptop?) and log in, and show them the map? It would at least show them the intersection/300m area, yes? Surely they have a way to use the name/general city block to narrow it down?... Maybe they couldn't use that, I don't know :/ I hope you can get it back somehow!

Right - but you pointed out that google earth narrowed it down to 300ft or so. That's a lot of information right there. You can then find the house numbers on that street that fall into that 300ft radius. You have a first name. I don't know - not saying it's a sure bet - but I'd say chances are high that if you googled with "" the first name, and that street name, city...etc - you might be surprised at what a little online detective work can reveal. Heck if it was me - I'd have driven to that street already just to get the house numbers - but that's just me.

Well, the person who stole it broke into my car at school to take it. So I have reported it to the police. They are doing a report as we speak. They are going to have to join forces with the county police because my district doesn't have jurisdiction in this area of town. I'd drive over there, but my mom doesn't want me to incase the girl knows who I am see's me, panics and trashes the iPod.

Good advice. You should listen to your mother.

If you are fairly certain the person goes to your school, the combination of a first name, 300 ft radius and a student roster ought to help them nail it very quick.
