I was in a store to purchase a shuffle this weekend, and was told by one the clerks that the shuffles will only carry 50 charges and then they don't work anymore. Is this only for shuffles or all ipods?
He advised us to purchase with the extended warranty so when this happened, we could exchange for a new one...that is IMHO a pretty big problem. Can anyone lend any truth to this? |

Sounds like the sale guy was just trying to sale those extended warranties (that they usually make a bonus or commission on the sale of extended warrranties). I have a shuffle and I have had it since the day they come out and I have used it so much. Mine is so scratched and looks really bad and the battery holds a charge great. I can't be sure, but I have charged it many many times...I believe well more than 50 times and it works fine STILL!!

If this is the chain I think it is, it has been profiled several times (CBC MarketPlace among others) for its aggressive marketing of extended warranties. It has been documented that the sales people not only get a commission from the sale of the warranty itself but that they are required to meet a quota where extended warranties are a % of their monthly sales. This chain has also been shown to misrepresent what is covered by the warranties and then not servicing/replacing the product. In short, this is a problem with the seller not the product. Go somewhere else. (If you private mail me I'll identify the chain.)
