My iPod hates me

OK, So my iPod is acting up. Recently is has been randomly reseting its self. Then today it kept turning off, freezing, reseting and displayed the file folder with exclamation point. So I finally call Apple and they say I have to send it back for $30. As soon as I send the billing info, the iPod acts fine. Now the only problem is I cant get it to connect to my brand new powerbook. The ipod says its connecting, but it wont show up in itunes or the desk top. The apple web page told me to delete the ipoddriver.kext and download something else, but the download wont work and I cant get the driver to restore. Now...after the ipod seeems to be working fine (besides the connection problem) I get a memo from apple saying that if nothing is wrong with the iPod I can be charges $100.

AAHH, help, I'm so confused. What can I do, do I still send it in? How can I get it to connect.

The ipod is a 20gb, using USB, on my g4 powerbook wiith Tiger.

If the iPod is "working fine besides the connection problem," it's not working fine. The connection to the computer is a key component of the whole iPod experience.

Is there another computer you can try this on? You must have had something working with the iPod before your "brand new Powerbook."

When it was talking to the computer, did you run the iPod Software Updater and start again from scratch? That's the first thing I would do, and if that doesn't solve the problem I would send it in for service.

I assume because of the $30 charge you're iPod is no longer under warranty. If that's that case, I would consider an alternate service company, like iPodResq.

Good luck!
