ipod formatting? mac or pc

I have all my songs for my ipod on my PC. All my contacts are in my mac address book as well as my ical. My question is, can I format my ipod for a mac and still get the songs that are on my pc. I tried to format it for a mac but when I hooked it up to the PC it told me I had to format it for a PC. I didn't even try to open itunes when i got the error message. Is there a way to do it?

No, Mac format will not work with your PC (unless you have MacDrive) so if you want to use your iPod on a Mac and a PC then format it on the PC.
