Show Duplicates is Greyed Out

I am new to MAC and itunes and am wondering why the show duplicates is greyed out in itunes

You first need to to tell iTunes what songs it should check for duplicates.
You do this by selecting the songs in a playlist or the library, then you can use the "Show Duplicates" command.
