I was actually wondering this as well. I just purchased an iPod Touch. My iTunes library is on an old computer that no longer gets the internet. I have about 800 songs so downloading them onto a CD is not a possibility. Is there anyway to transfer the songs to a different computer? How should I go about getting the songs onto the new iPod? (Also, I have all of my songs on an old iPod if that will aid in the transfer).
Thank you. |

I just found these on the net
Here’s how: 1. Connect your iPod to your PC. Warning! If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it. 2. In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod. 3. In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders." 4. Find the Music — The music is stored (in current iPods) in the directory “\iPod_Control\Music”. This may have a lot of odd looking stuff in it but it doesn’t matter. 5. Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes. 6. Configure iTunes — Go into iTunes Preferences, and under the Advanced tab, check “Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to the library” (settings move around a bit between versions of iTunes, but these settings will be there somewhere). think differently ![]() ![]() ![]()

1) Normally iTunes prompts you before it does anything with an iPod not synced to the computer. 4) Not everyone runs Windows- and in this case there is a better way- go to "Music" and then "iTunes Library" and copy all the songs listed there onto an external drive. 6) On the new computer (Mac or Windows), you can add the files on the external drive via File>Add to Library (Mac) or File>Add Files to Library (Windows) late 2009 MacBook - OS X 10.7.5 early 2009 Mac mini - OS X 10.7.5 4th gen iPod touch 32GB - iOS 6.0 iPhone 4 8GB - iOS 6.0 |
