Hi, I download the bulk of my music from online retailers, not always from iTunes. These mp3s go to the downloads folder. After I open them in iTunes, can I delete them from my downloads folder in Finder? Or will that render them lost if I happen to delete them from my iTunes library? Thanks.

That depends on how you have iTunes set up. If you have both of the following checked in it's preferences:

then yes, you can safely delete the file in your downloads folder once it is in your iTunes library.

In any case, if you delete it from the downloads folder and delete it from iTunes (while saying yes delete the file), then yes, it would be gone from your computer.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.
