Reformat ipod from PC to MAC

I want to reformat my wife's ipod from PC to our Mac. Can I use iRip to get her songs on to the mac, reformat the ipod to mac and re-sync the ipod? She has over 500 songs and I'd be in deep stuff if I loose them. I'm somewhat computer savvy but this is making me just a little nervous. Then would I need to add her as a new user with her own log in for Itunes or would it matter

Ya, if you pull the songs off the ipod and place them in itunes you are good. Reformat and put them back on the ipod. It will be like nothing ever changed.
