iPod Touch - Ipod touch has a dark screen

yesterday I ran the battery down... today I docked it up to my macbook... but it was doing funny things... like having a hard time starting. Left it alone and now nothing... absolutely nothing. I held down the power button/nothing. I held down the menu button/nothing.

I have an Ipod touch first generation.

Any help would be great.

Is it charged. Maybe try resetting it. (Hold the Home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for a couple seconds.)
