Pausing Problems

Hi, I'm new around here and I recently purchased my first iPod (iPod Photo 30GB). I was listening to it with the earphones provided however I decided to use my Etymotic ER-6i instead. After the swap I keep getting pausing problems where the iPod pauses by itself whilst on hold. I've heard of stories of iPods pausing becuase it thinks the earphones are pulled out. I read somewhere that the reason for this is that the metal on the earphone plug touches the iPod's metal casing. I was wondering if anyone else who owns the Etymotic ER-6i earphones are experiancing these problems as well since I am afraid that mine are not working.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!
