I purchased a Sounddock in 2008 (not Sounddock II). I have been using it fine with an iPod Video. Recently I purchased an iPod Touch 2nd generation. According to the Bose website, and everything I read on the web, the Touch should work on this dock but just not charge - but it will not play at all. Some people have reported problems with the remote - I'm willing to deal with that if it will just play! Apple support was no help at all - their response was that no dock that works on the other iPods will work with the 2nd generation Touch - but it looks like plenty of people have it working.

The issue is that the older iPod's would charge on their Firewire or USB pins. Most devices like the Sounddock charged via the Firewire pins only on the iPods.
The Touch, iPhone and the new Nano only charge via their USB pins.

There is an adapter out that will work on your Sounddock to enable charging your Touch. It's made by Scoche and is available here.

The price varies quite a bit. I've seen Amazon have it for as low as $14.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.

My problem isn't getting it to charge - I can't even get it to play! Will this adapter make it play???

No, the adapter would probably not make it play. It should play just fine. If your iPod video still works and the Touch does not, there is some other issue.
