iPod - 4gb ipod only holds 2gb

Hi Gang,

Noob here wondering why my 4gb ipod only holds 2gb of music?

Any suggestions?

I don't know why it only holds 2 gb, but it definitely will NOT hold 4gb -- the 4gb refers to the total capacity of the internal storage, but some of it is taken by the operating system, menus, directories, etc. Can't imagine it would take up an entire 2 gigs, though...

My 4GB Nano has 3.74GB free for music and pictures.

Here is what my summary says after I Sync with itunes.

Capacity: 1.78 Gb
Software Version: 1.1.2
Format: Windows

Capacity 1.78 Gb
Audio 1.75Gb Other 5.2Mb Free Space 25Mb

I don't know how to attach that thumbnail like dtravis did.

So I did some more investigating and on the back of the iPod it clearly states 2Gb. I reviewed my paperwork as I bought a iPod through eBay two years ago. And I did buy a 2Gb iPod. Doh.

So thanks for your input.

Boy do I feel silly.
