iPhone - Can the iPhone..?

Firstly i appologise if this is in the wrong section, i did think which to put it in for quite some time!

I was thinking, you can use a mobile phone as a modem for your laptop to connect to the internet, but is this possible with the iPhone?! If so it would be amazing, and i will be purchasing one as soon as i can afford it

Also if its not possible, could it be made possible in any way!?

I don't think you can. In any case why would you want to surf using the much slower GPRS or EDGE network when 3G and HSDPA are fairly widespread.

I know, it may sound a little obsurd, I just thought of it randomly whilst connecting my N95 *shrugs unlovingly* to surf through.
Even though it would be slow on the EDGE networks, surely something is better than nothing when possible?!
