I personally think the 2nd gen iphone wont be anything to storm your applestore over it will have 3G (buh bye battery) as we know and a different design among other tweaks but i believe the 1st gen is solid. When the iphone 3rd Gen. is out ill pay attention because they will learn from the previous 2 platforms and make signifigant changes.

I have heard firsthand of new updates in store (i posted a thread about it) that will include MMS many other apps will surely be addressed within next year apple is no fool and knows what its public wants.

EVERYONE REMEMBER the iphone is apples first attempt to create a phone. As strong as the platform is i can only image the later generations will be phoenominal.

How about after you answer the poll put your top 3 wanted apps for the iphone present and future.(excluding mms its comming trust me).

I already have the current one, and I think it is great. Anything they put out as far as MMS and Video can be addressed in software updates so I'm not worried about missing out.

I don't really care about those two things, so what I have is absolutely terrific.

You can already get a 3rd-party MMS app for the iPhone (if you have no qualms about jailbreaking it). When Apple releases a real SDK, that's when the floodgates will be open and most any existing shortcoming on the iPhone likely will get addressed by someone, if not Apple.

I'm waiting out to see what Apple produce over the next couple of generations. I'm tied in to an 18 month contract with an N95. When there is an iPhone with everything that I need then I will most probably buy one.

I know about the private dev. MMS but Jan. 1st mark my words they will release 1.1.3 and it will contain MMS that ties into the sms chat bubbles. Also my aunt has a jailbroken 1.1.1 and her MMS app never works even with full service.

I have the first gen and am very happy with it, and I really don't see the need to upgrade to the next gen when it comes out because we're getting 3rd party apps in a couple of months!

Personally, I'm glad the first one doesn't have 3g. If it did I probably wouldn't have purchased it. Here on the big island of Hawaii we don't always have the latest technology. 3G doesn't have full coverage here and probably won't for some time.

if it had 3g, it would be EDGE compatible anyways, so no fear.

But 3G antenna apparently takes more juice than the EDGE antenna, as the OP commented, so that would be your only issue.

Not if you're in a 3G area and you can just shut that Wifi antenna off for good! The wifi antenna messes me up anyway. I can't connect to the wifi in my school due to their security measures, and for some reason when I can't connect to it, I can't even access data with EDGE either no matter what I do.
