Status BarI have noticed a new item on my iPhone status bar that I haven't really noticed previously. Right next to the battery, I have an icon with a traditional handset and seven dots under it.
I can find anything about it in the user guide and was hoping someone here (even though it's probably so painfully obvious) could shed some light. It's killing me not knowing

Are you talking about the bluetooth icon?
That's the only icon I can think of that is right next to the battery.
Oh, do you have a bluetooth headset connected?Computer & TV: MacBook Pro 15-inch, Intel 2.2. iMac 20-inch, Intel 2.4. AppleTV 40G

It's not the bluetooth icon unfortunately. I know that one well.
A telephone handset facing down.
One row of four dots under it.
Then a row of three dots under those.

You must have TTY turned on in the phone settings.
EDIT: Not sure why Apple hasn't put this in their documentation anywhere.

Poo Pants is right, that's the TTY icon. To disable it go to Settings --> Phone. Scroll to the bottom where it says TTY and switch the slider to off.

It's pretty much a way for the hearing impaired to be able to use phones. I think it converts voice to text or something along those lines.
Edit: Found the wiki page on it: Telecommunications device for the deaf

unknown status bar icon
Thanx Kash -- I also had this phone-like icon on my status bar and couldn't figure out what it was. You were right. It was the TTY icon. Not sure how it got turned on but glad to solve the mystery.
