Can I unlock a cingular iPhone and use it on t-mobile?

The iphone will be available in june and my sprint contract is up in august. M girlfriend is under tmobile right now and i wouldnt mind going on a plan with her. I think the Sprint guy told me that Cingular and t-mobile use the same GSM towers?

use GSM towers, but it wont work on them... we went through this.. i wanted to do the same thing... even if it was possible, all the features wouldn't work right, and you wouldnt be able to get insurance.. so just imagine if you dropped or broke the phone... your screwed.. no way to get out of paying 600 for a new one...
