Custom Ringtones

Can I set a custom ringtone for when sound is on?? ex. I want to receive a sound when the phone rings, texts, notifications but DO NOT want sound for every email I receive.

Mac Specs: 2008 and 2011 15" mbps, late 11 iMac, iPhone 4s, and too many ipods and other stuff

Dysfunction is offline
turn off email sounds in Settings > Sound

No problem. Simple, and yet completely annoying (it was for me when I got my first iPhone at least, getting the email notification that is..)!
