movie recorded on iphone 4 wont play when emailed to mac in quicktime

i took some video yesterday on my wifes iphone 4 and then emailed it to my myself.

when i try to play it back on my mac quicktime says it doesnt recognise the file, its a .mov file. i have tried converting it to a .avi file but that doesnt work.

any ideas?

also movies recorded on my iphone and them uploaded to facebook will not play on the iphone when it hen open facebook i can see the movie but it says that this file is not supported.but if i open facebook on my laptop the movie plays ok.

very confused !!

if any one has any experience of this please let me know.
