iPhone 3GS speaker issue?

Hi just wondering I recieved my Iphone 3GS about 7 months ago and realised that sound only comes out of 1 speaker at the bottom.

I checked this by playing something and covering the left speaker whole with my finger and only very quiet sound comes out the left speaker hole.

Is this supposed to happen or is there something wrong with my left speaker?

There is only one speaker. The other one is the mic.

but doesn't it make sense to have the left hole as the mic and the right one as the speaker?

Anyway at least its not broken, thanks again!
