features for new Iphone 4
Retina display ( not needed)
Video phone call (on wifi only for now)
5 megapixel camera w/Flash (*)
A4 processor chip (*)
Battery life (claims probably exaggerated like previous generations)
Stainless steel frame (already keep phone in a case)
Harder Glass (never broken my glass yet)

* = Would be nice, but not needed, and the faster processor probably won't utilized to full potential and be well supported on the network.

I love apple products. But I don't really see the benefit of getting an Iphone 4 over the set up I have now. I've had folders for apps, and wifi tethering, backgrounder, etc. I'll upgrade to iOS 4 once it's JB.

I renew my contract with higher cancelation fee. Therefore lose the remote possibility Big Red might get this phone within the next 2 years, and switching over.

$300 + $18 fee + $18 (tax) for a phone which really doesn't do much more then what I have now.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Where'd you get this little tidbit from?

Also, the starting price is $199

from the video on apple.com they claim a 40% increase in battery life from the previous generation.

199 is for the 16 gb, thats not enough. I'vee filled up a little over 25 gb on mine now.

I agree with baggss on this one. Besides the fact I think most of your analysis of the phone is completely off base, just don't buy it if you don't like it.

The A4 processor alone is worth it IMHO. You've obviously never used an iPad to understand the power difference.

Your absolutely right. Silly me, paying $500 for this aluminum paper weight sitting right next to me.

So other then "magical experience" that the 3g S is no longer able to offer. What else has my analysis missed?

and as a side note. I didn't ask you guys if I should buy it or not. I asked if others were in a similar boat as me in comparing the features of the new phone and weighing it against the cost of upgrading.

You are jailbroken…simply put, that's your batteries worst enemy! And that's from experience! It's really hard to make a real debate with the 4 when NO ONE has it!

Oh yeah, the A4 chip, have it on my ipad, and I wont stand another minute on a phone without the a4 chip! Release it already Apple!

Have you seen the new display yet in person?

Quote:
Video phone call (on wifi only for now)
Very useful for some users.

Quote:
5 megapixel camera w/Flash (*)
That camera will be many times better and more useful then the one in the 3G and 3Gs.

A4 processor chip (*)
Have you used an iPad? The iPad blows down the 3GS in speed. The iPhone 4's CPU is the same as the iPads.

Quote:
Battery life (claims probably exaggerated like previous generations)
Again, have you used one? It might be even better than Apple is stating.

Quote:
Stainless steel frame (already keep phone in a case)
The Antenna is part of that frame. Might get much better reception.

Quote:
Harder Glass (never broken my glass yet)
Yes but there is always a first time.

Also I do agree with drinorbarsaku. Your jail breaking might be hurting the battery life a bit.

I am not trying to be a pain, but until you actually see and use the new iPhone, most of what you said is guessing.

Backing up your assertion is the fact that the iPad has a longer battery life than what Apple claimed. It's very likely that Apple is under reporting the iPhone 4's battery life as well.
