How to get Iphone Factory unlocked

Hi, i bought an iphone off ebay from the US and i live in australia.

can i ask optus to factory unlock the iphone for me, even though it was bought lokced to a carrier overseas?

You can try,But as far as I know Australian carriers can only unlock Australian iPhones.
