Would the 3G iPhone dock to a sound system like
a Klipsch iGroove or Bose SoundDock ? I notice on
the Apple site that it has a 30 pin connector on the
bottom of it.

I have an iPod that I use with my iGroove. I might
go the iPhone route if I could use it as a music source
too.

If I still have to carry two things, I'll just stay with my
current phone and my iPod.

I dont know but I can tell you my wife has a mini Cooper that has the ipod connection and I hook my Iphone up to it all the time. The Iphone will display a message saying that is connected to a non Iphone accessory or something like that. but it still plays the music and charges the phone which leads me to think that you maybe able to use them.
