iPad Air Screen: Feels Plastic and hollow

Has Apple made a change in the screen of the iPads or has the feel of the screen always been plasticky and hollow?

I personally do not like this about it. For a premium product, this makes it feel cheap. My 5s screen doesn't feel like this.
