Did you connect it via USB and then go through the menu in iTunes under Devices and check all that apply then hit Sync?

The menu for devices doesn't show up. It does with my iPhone and did with my iPad mini ( which I now don't have ) , but not with my iPad Air. I also can't sync my calendar. Can't figure out why.

Either a bad connection, cable or port would be the only reason I can think of for iTunes not seeing the iPad once you connect via USB.
Try restarting your Mac and do a hard boot on the iPad Air ( home button and power button held down till Apple Logo).

Thanks for your advice. Did all the things you suggested and used another cord to connect and all is good. Don't know what the problem was, but one of those tips fixed it. Thank you very much.
