Coming from the iPad 1, for me the new iPad is much thinner and lighter. I haven't noticed the heat at all because I put it in one of those original Apple covers from the iPad 1 that I still had. Have not played with the back camera AT ALL, the front camera is still "crappy" but it works great for FaceTime.

I got my iPad (3) on the day they were released here in Australia. Walked in no cues nothing as here the shops did not tell any one when they would have them for sale. ( this is in Geelong Victoria) Now have been using it for 10 days and I love it, coming from the ipad one. It is fast, like the new screen it helps with reading a lot. Went over the road to a neighbors to show it to her about 50-60 meters away. As I am going through a few things I realise that I was on the internet, my internet. The original could not do that. The camera takes very good photos at 5 MP. The only thing that was a little disappointing that the forward pointing camera can only be used with Face time. I would have liked to be able to use it with Skype. All in all I think it is a wonderful product.

The glass feel different. Definitely smoother, is that because it is new? I don't remember if my original iPad felt the same way at first. I don't use a protector because it never leaves my room.

I went to the local Apple Store and arrived about 50 minutes before they opened. I was roughly the 20th person in line (people tend to wait until the last minute in Alaska), but by the time the doors opened, there was probably 80-100 people total. I was in and out by 8:30am with my brand new 32GB WiFi+LTE iPad. Compared to the iPad2 (which I sold for $340 that afternoon), I did not notice the difference in either weight or thickness, although the Belkin hard case I used with the iPad 2 will not fit onto the new iPad. I have noticed the new iPad getting warm on occasion, but never to the point where it was uncomfortable or concerning in any way. My display has had none of the light leak or yellowing issues some people have reported either.
I did have to go to Best Buy later that afternoon for an unrelated matter, and they literally had stacks of iPads still available for sale. From all accounts, Apple and retailers worked to make sure that stores wouldn't run into prolonged shortages like there have been with prior iPad launches. ------------------------------------------------- 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2011) 2.4 GHz Core i7 | 8GB DDR3-1333 RAM 750GB HDD | OS X Lion 10.7.2 |

I sold my Ipad2 to get the 3, screen is the biggest improvement I notice. This is enough of an upgrade for me as I read a lot an surf/email on it.The other changes I don't see or notice, so called heat is also a non issue.
Go the Mac!! |

I stood in line at my local London drugs (I'm in Canada) for about an hour. I was the sixth in line out of eight so I didn't really have to wait in line at all. Anyways I got the 32gb wifi in white. I absolutely love the retina display. Mine didn't have any problems, so I was very pleased. You definitely notice the weight difference, but for not the thickness. I am very pleased with this new iPad, the display, camera and new processor make this the best tablet out there! I do have one question and that is regarding AppleCare plus. Is it a good idea to get it? I had an iPad 2 for 7 months and it doesn't even have a scratch. I am still aware that accidents happen so I am really thinking about it. What do you guys think? Did you buy it?

After a full week with the iPad, I can tell you that if this screen was a woman I'd marry it. I love the Siri Dictation as well, use it all the time. (I'm on my Mac at the moment, but have used it to dictate forum messages!).
I also like the improved zippiness, and for me coming from the original iPad this thing is lighter and thinner, so that's another plus. I can see myself doing a LOT more reading and video watching on this now than I did before. Being able to dictate texts, messages and email has huge potential for me. Heat has been a total non-issue, but then I don't play Skyrim or whatever the hot new flavour of the week is for hours on end either. The one and only "ding" I have with the new iPad is that it takes longer to charge than the old one, and that it shows "100%" battery for too long before it starts to drop. Bad algorithm, and I'm sure Apple are aware of it so I expect a fix will come down the pike soon enough. This thing is near-perfect IMHO, and given that I got $250 "back" on my original iPad towards buying it, I'd also call it my best tech purchase of the year by far. I got the 32GB Wi-Fi black, I just didn't want to spend the money on the LTE model since I would use that ability VERY little (I am almost constantly in Wi-Fi). |

I bought 2 of them; one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine never gets warm no matter how long I use it but hers does when performing the same tasks.
They do not both operate at the same temp. That doesn’t seem right. “An Apple spokeswoman said the iPad was ‘within our thermal specifications.’” (Reuters, 2012). That’s fine but what about the inconsistency between different 3rd generation iPads? Has anyone else experienced this?
