I found when ordering my MBP that it originated in Shanghai, and flew nonstop for 11 hours direct to Memphis.

Memphis is Fedex's main distribution hub. Once its there, its on regular flights to where ever FX serves, and thats just about any US address. By plane thats 3-4 hours at most since Memphis is in the middle of the country.

Since the planes are navigating the globe, despite the visual its actually shorter to go over top hence the higher latitude. Going lower would actually take longer.
