iPad stylus

My buddy is going to be getting an iPad soon and wants to get a stylus for it. He will also be getting the Otterbox Defender as a case, so what kind of stylus would work well with it? Any recommendations would be helpful

I am having difficultly finding a good stylus. The pogo is small and does feel good. It also seem to wear out after a month. I liked the logiix stylus. More of a pen feeling, but after 3 weeks of use it now drags so much that it is hard to use. So now think of trying to make my own.

Unless your buddy is drawing, I'm not quite clear on why you need a stylus at all.
