Can the iPad be a suitable replacement for an Apple TV with the VGA connector? I would like to be able to view the movies and listen to the music in my itunes, but if I get a new apple device, I would like it to replace my apple TV.

2.0 Ghz Macbook Unibody - 4GB RAM - 500GB HDD - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
iPhone 4 - 32GB - Verizon

If you can fit all that onto your iPad sure, but the Apple TV has a much bigger capacity and better connections to hook it up to a TV.

The iPad I don't think is really meant to be an "Apple TV" replacement if you're really looking for the functionality of an Apple TV.

I suppose it could be a replacement, if you have a relatively small amount of movies/TV shows.

 MacBook Air 13'' (2013) 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel Core i7
 iPad 4 (16GB) White
 AT&T iPhone 5 (32GB) Black
 Original iPad (16GB) Black

Not to mention you won't have a remote like you do with the AppleTV

You can use your iPad as a monitor... if you are running Mac OSX.
