Samsung makes some great hardware. The company's TVs and cell phones are top notch.

However, Samsung has terrible customer service and product support. They'll release a phone and they will forget all about it. Call them up with any issues only to find that you're SOL.

The problem companies like Samsung and LG have yet to realize is that customers are looking for more than quality hardware, they also want quality software and a company that is willing to back its products, especially smartphones.

I'm sure the Samsung tablet will be a fantastic piece of hardware, but as usual, it will fail on a software and support front and will be left in the dust by the technologically inferior iPad.

If the picture that accompanies the article is based on something Samsung actually has in mind, I'm not too hopeful. That micro-sized hard-keyboard layout is the dumbest thing I've seen in quite a while.

There's also precious little hard info about what this thing may or may not contain -- or even if its actually a real story (our friend "unnamed source" reporting ...).

Still, if it does appear, it will undoubtedly have a lovely screen.

Scroll down to the bottom of that article: Samsung has released a slate device in the past, with its Q1 UMPC device (pictured above) being one of the last-gen tablets which failed to take off.

Nice - I still have a Q1 sitting around from back in the day. It was a great idea at the time but battery life was not up to snuff.

Yea, that was the biggest problem with UMPCs, the battery life was just awful. Then again, what else did you expect from a tablet running a full blown copy of Windows XP?

Only thing I've seen that comes close to competing with the iPad is the Viliv S10. Base model starting at $699 has no multi-touch support. Add multi-touch, 64GB SSD, 2.0Ghz Atom and a 3G HSPA modem and you're up to $1150. With no name recognition here in the U.S., it'll be a tough sell.

It's available for pre-order here for all those that didn't like the iPad because it didn't have this or the other - lets see how many take Viliv up on their device. Has a camera, full blown OS with Win 7, it's put up or shut up time now.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

Funny how in January we heard so much about how useless the iPad was/would be, and now everybody is tripping over themselves to get tablet devices out to compete with it.

And no one even has an iPad yet.

Oh I think even intel is on the Apple bandwagon. i5 and i7 seriously. Apple was the one that made i famous. And I think Apple will also make the ipad popular and everyone wants a share of the market Apple has created.
