Facebook contacts in iPhone...how to remove?

I made a grievous mistake (in my opinion) and said yes when setting up my new iPhone/iOS 6 and allowed my Facebook friends to be integrated into my contacts. Now they cannot be deleted.

Ideas?

Can you not go into the Contacts App - Groups - untick Facebook contacts? Or have they been merged in the full contacts list?

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

Either that or go into Settings - Facebook - slide contacts to Off
