Delayed texts on iPhone 5

I have been having an intermittent problem with delayed texts. Some are not showing up for 24 hours or more. I am using Verizon. Any suggestions?

Mac Specs: 2008 and 2011 15" mbps, late 11 iMac, iPhone 4s, and too many ipods and other stuff

Dysfunction is offline
SMS, not iMessage right? It's the provider, more than likely. The other thing to check is network availability. No signal == no text until signal is regained.

I've been having the same problem. I've updated my iphone to 6.0.1 but they are still delayed. my carrier is AT&T
