Jailbreak delete?

Mac Specs: Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz I7 4GB mem version 10.8 ML // Ipad3 // iPhone 4S

I recently bought a used ipad3 and it's already been jail broke. I'm really not even sure what that means but I'm trying to run an app from the app store and it says it won't run on a jail broken device. How do I restore it to its original configuration and will I lose everything that I have now

Mac Specs: 15in i7 MacBook Pro, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 500GB HD

Restore it via iTunes to remove the jailbreak.
