How to Recover Contacts on New iPhone after syncing with iCloud

Bought a new iPhone 4S from Target where they transferred my contacts form my Verizon Blackberry to the new iPhone. When I got home I went to register my phone via iTunes and turned on iCloud. Now the contacts are gone. There was never a warning indicating that my selections will remove contacts from the iPhone. In addition, when I open Address Book on the iPhone, the screen will briefly show what appears to be my contacts and switches to nothing.

Any ideas?
