Oops, posted this in the wrong section... i'll try again here

I've just noticed I can't view the 'maps' app east/west on my iPhone (ie - phone rotated 90º for 'widescreen' view). When I orient the phone for widescreen, the maps app stays locked in a north/south orientation... this is an irk for me as it's more intuitive to view maps with maximum width (with all tags and labelling adjusted accordingly).

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure the maps app has always automatically corrected orientation... have I accidently changed a setting somehow?

I know you can double tap the location tab and the map will 'right' itself to your direction, but this isn't directly solving my issue. The gyro is fine too - no issues within 'compass' or my inclinometer app.

Can anyone help me resolve this?

Is it possible you have accidentally turned on "screen lock"? You can check this by double-clicking the home button to show running apps, then swipe those apps to the right until you see the iPod controls and screen rotation lock.
