Is it pointless for me to get an HD app if I have the 3GS?

I see that there is a normal and then HD version for some apps.
I know that HD is meant for the iPad, but does it do anything for the 3GS as well?

It won't make a difference on your 3GS either way.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
