2nd gen ipod touch not recognising ios5 - help!

Hi,

I have a second gen 8gb ipod touch - model number MB528BT.

I have downloaded itunes 10.5.

When I "check for update" in itunes all I get is that "This version of the iPod software (4.2.1) is the current version".

So it doesn't seem to recognise ios5.

I'd really appreciate any ideas anyone may have to help.
