Kik cross-platform messaging app

Anyone using this? Looks like a great idea and a nice way to drop $15 off my monthly phone bill! (if I can get most/all of my texting friends on it) Works across Blackberry, Android and iOS. Most likely WM7 when it makes its way into the market.

I don't think it does pics and video yet, but it's a start. Any other good cross-platform messengers out there that I'm not aware of?

Maybe I'm confused here. Does SMS not work cross platform? What's the point of this app when I already have text?

Apparently, the appeal is to drop texting from your monthly bill so you don't pay for it. My brother uses a similar iPhone app called TextFree.

Another neat feature is that it tells you if the other party has read your message and it tells you in real time when they're typing. It's kind of like an SMS/IM hybrid.

The read thing can be done on other smart phones, heck my old Palm 700P did it. The "when they are tying" thing is kind of cool but seems a bit unnecessary though...
