Transferring of Apps from iPod Touch to iPhone

Hello guys,

I've been using the first generation iPod Touch all the way up until I bought the iPhone 4 on Saturday. I've played a few games on my iPod Touch like Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombie. However, when I plugged my iPhone to my iMac, the I lost the progress in the game completely. I still have the games and the progresses on the iPod Touch, but I'd like to transfer those onto my iPhone - how do I do that?

What if I back up my iPod Touch? Will that translate over?
