Probably because any company that provided that service would need to charge a monthly/yearly fee to pay for the satellite and/or cell tower access for such a service. Sort of doubt anyone has put together a package that can compete with mobile-me for such a service. That's if Apple would even allow a competitor in this area.

Any company would probably have to be in the $50-$60 a yr minimum price range and you can get mobile-me for about $75 from Amazon. Then they'd have to compete not only there, but for another $25 all the other stuff that comes with mobile-me.

AT&T has a GPS service that will do this and it runs $10 a month as with other mobile carriers. Now it does have turn by turn voice direction over and above just the GPS service. And I don't think that one is available for the iPhone, although not sure.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
