i would like to d/l OS 3.1 or 3.2 (whatever) which i can only do it through itunes with my mobile attached to computer. I tried it but as my net connection is slow it says it takes about 9 hours and it failed while downloading. It happened twice.
I need to know if there is any possibilities to d/l OS 3.1 on my friend's computer copy that file to my computer and then install it to my phone.

Yes it shouldn't be a problem, As long as it's for a 2G or 3G only. Apple stopped writing any firmware below 3.1.3 for the 3GS.

Yes, that's possible. Just download it on your friend's computer and put it on a USB stick or whatever way of transferring it you want, and when you go into iTunes on your computer, click on "_____________'s iPhone" (your name there) and hold Alt and click Update. That will let you find and choose what file to use to update your phone. Then just click on the OS file and it will install it. Good luck.

I did it on my friend's computer.
Actually i didn't find any download link on apple.com to download upgrade version without attaching my phone.
But my new problem is - my phone got locked after i updated to OS 3.1
