Problems with upgrading to iTunes 9?

My husband has a vast collection of music on our Mac with iTunes 7, but he's afraid to upgrade. He has playlists that he has carefully created and holds dear - and he's heard that upgrading may alter his playlists, that songs may get scrambled around, or that there may be other issues - ??
Are there problems associated with upgrading? And if so, anyone care to share?

I have never lost anything on my upgrades so far but as anyone here will tell you always
back up and I find Time machine works great for that. I tossed something in the trash
once only to find out I wanted it back so I opened TM and went back to a known date
which had the file and restored it that simple.
