Why does the iPhone not have any name ID?

Im not talking about caller ID, this is a different thing. Caller ID simply shows the phone number of the person who is calling, while name ID does the name (or Business name) of the person is calling, similar to the caller ID used at home.

I was told it was because in the US, there is no such thing such as Name ID, and therefor was never made an option. But this is a pretty standard option in Canada, so I'm quite suprised it doesn't work.

I recently got the new iphone 3g, and it is the first phone I'v ever seen where it doesnt have this option. The worse of phones is still able to show Name ID? Anyone know anything more on this or anything that can be done?

If the persons name is in your address book with that number then the name will show up. It did the same thing on my Palm 700P with Verizon too.

This is 100% true, this option is not available in the US, though I don't know why.
