push contacts and calender

HI:
This is my first thread. My question is i thought that the contacts and calander changes would push not just mail. I was told by someone in a chat room that was not the case that the only way to move them was to sync with a cable. thanks in advance for any help.

Contacts and calendar will push if you have MobileMe.
