Hey guys,
I'll run downmy problem as quick and easy as possible. Im using an iMac running OSX 10.4.1. Ive had it for a few months and everything has been fine with the internet. Out of the blue, I can no longer connect to Safari, Firefox, Msn, Outlook etc etc although in my network diagnostics, it says that my Built In EThernet is connected, active and is using a valid IP. If I take my ethernet plug out, and plug it in my laptop... everything works fine. So its not on that side of things. When I plug it back in, I can connect on the internet for about 30secs to 1min max then nothin. I get the error message "you are not connected to the internet" I've created different Locations in network, made a different user on my system, restarted my computer and nothing is working. Please Help! |

Welcome to Mac-Forums!
It's possible it could be just a corrupt preference file. Look for the systemconfigurations/networkinterfaces.plist in your home folder~ library/preferences/ and trash it then restart. When all else fails, try everything! The Rep System and you. Life's a joke...If you're not laughing, then you didn't get it. June 2008 |

Look in your HDD/library/preferences/com.apple.networkConfig
Trash it and restart. You can also run Network Utility and System Profiler in the Utilities folder. See if the port is working correctly. When all else fails, try everything! The Rep System and you. Life's a joke...If you're not laughing, then you didn't get it. June 2008 |

Have you tried unplugging your modem/router? If you connect via DSL, I've noticed sometimes folks have to reset the PPoE and username/password. But I'd try just unplugging your modem/router. Let us know how it goes...

Try using the Network Utility. Go to your Applications Folder, Choose Utilities Folder, and then look for Network Utility.
But you know this reminds me one time of an issue I had one time at my office. I had an ethernet cable that would plug fine into my desktop computer, but it was a little loose when I plugged it in to my MacBook Pro at work and eventually it would wiggle its way out and I would lose my network connectivity. Long story short, I had to end up purchasing another ethernet cable. Since your able to connect for a few seconds I wonder if its the cable? If not I'd use Network Utility and System Profiler to check your ethernet port to see if it is going out... Is them modem hooked up to your laptop or to a router. If it is hooked up to the laptop directly you need to unplug it from power for 30 seconds before switching the computer it is plugged into.

i have the same exact issue.
it's narrowed it down to the brand new system update that i performed and i now have 10.5.2. i'm connected to my dlink router and my provider is working fine...yet i can't connect on my home network. i'm on a very very weak signal of a neighbor's. this is most frustrating! |

Try disabling/uninstalling Limewire, and then see if the others work - Limewire can sometimes 'throttle' your connection, or you may have a software firewall enabled on your mac, that only allows connections to the above....Depending on your router, it may have a QoS setting that allows you to prioritize program access through your connection....
