hi guys,

I'm having problems with sharing a usb printer from leopard to tiger:

I have a HP printer F4100 connected via USB to my imac with leopard,
I enabled sharing for this printer in system preferences
It is also enabled in the firewall

now on my macbook with OS X Tiger, if I go to the 'default browser' to add the printer, it doesn't show up, Tiger can't seem to find the printer

Can anyone help me?

thx from the new guy

Welcome to Mac-Forums!

Are you able to connect Macs thru Go-Network? (are they able to see each other)
If you still can't find the printer afterwards, try connecting the printer to the Macbook. You'll be able to set it as the default printer and make sure they work together first.

When all else fails, try everything!

If you have a network, you probably have a firewall on your router, right!?

Then why have the software firewall enabled?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Some things to try...
Use Bonjour.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306984

In the Bonjour description on Apple's site, it says:
"Printers. With Mac OS X and Bonjour, you can use an application’s Add Printer dialog to discover Bonjour-enabled printers on the network, directly print to them, and add them to your available printer list. When you access a network, you can automatically discover the available printers; you simply select the one you want to use and start printing. You can also add a printer to the network and, without any configuration, the printer appears in the Printer Browser of the computers on the network."
Hope this helps. Also, did you try using the printer with the Macbook by itself?

When all else fails, try everything!

no problem

I don't know if I mentioned it, but the printer is shared by a leopard mac and not by a previous version

I want to connect via Tiger to my printer shared on leopard, but Tiger is not able to find the printer in the default browser

I installed the printer on my macbook and it works with usb printing, but when I try it again with network printing (through leopard) it cannot find it

thx Soulwar for all your help

I'm able to print now, but only if I add my printer with the LPD Line Printer Daemon protocol

if I specify the address and the name of the printer, I can get it to work,
but if I try to search for it, I cannot find it
QUOTE Thanks
