manually configured FTP proxy abroad - now Safari doesn't work in the UK!

I was in Dubai last week and in order to connect to the wi-fi connectio, I had to manually configure the FTP proxy settings. Forgot to make a note of the original settings....Now I'm back in the UK and cannot open Safari. However, able to connect to my wi-fi router via Firefox.
I have talked to my service provider and Netgear router support and they are blaming on each other to help!

I'm a not so tech-savvy so don't understand all of
